Thoreau at Walden by John Porcellino

IV. Thoreau at Walden by John Porcellino

I have a soft spot for Mr. Henry David Thoreau. So when I opened the Junior Library Guild box and found this shiny treasure staring up at me, I was quite pleased. (Graphic Novels + Thoreau Refresher) x Pleasant Reminders of Professors Past = Good Time.

John Porcellino’s drawings in this book are simplistic. It was a little off-putting at first, and I can see why nobody seems to want to pick this one off my display shelf, but if you appreciate Mr. Thoreau, you will appreciate this book. The simple drawings reflect Thoreau’s quest for a simple life. And this book gave me more insight to what life really must have been like for him. His day to day movings give you a better understanding of where he drew his philosophies. This book does a great job of providing sources and extra information. Everything is very contextual.

Buy this book for: your favorite English major, history buff, or anyone who aspires to simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.
